USB Backup does not collect, store, transmit, or share any of your personal data, photos, videos, or files. Period.

Overview

USB Backup ("the App") is a photo and video backup utility for iOS developed by Oscar Salas ("we", "us"). This privacy policy explains how the App handles your data.

We built USB Backup with privacy as a core principle. Your files are transferred directly from your device to your USB drive. No data ever passes through our servers because we don't have servers.

Data We Collect

None. We do not collect any personal information, usage analytics, crash reports, device identifiers, or any other data. The App operates entirely on your device.

Photo Library Access

The App requests access to your photo library solely to read your photos and videos for backup purposes. Your media files are:

Read directly from your device's photo library
Transferred directly to the USB drive you select
Never uploaded to any server, cloud service, or third party
Never analyzed, scanned, or processed for any purpose other than backup

USB Drive Access

The App uses iOS security-scoped bookmarks to access the USB drive folder you select. This access is:

Granted explicitly by you through the iOS document picker
Limited to the specific folder you choose
Used only for writing backup files and reading the backup manifest

Backup Manifest

The App creates a manifest file (photobackup_manifest.json) on your USB drive to track which files have already been backed up. This file:

Is stored only on your USB drive and optionally cached locally on your device
Contains file metadata (filenames, dates, sizes) but not the actual photo/video content
Is never transmitted to any external service

In-App Purchases

The App offers a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not have access to your payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs the purchase transaction.

Third-Party Services

The App does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or data collection services. The only external service used is Apple's StoreKit framework for processing in-app purchases.

Data Storage

All app data (settings, backup history) is stored locally on your device using iOS standard storage mechanisms. This data is:

Protected by iOS device encryption
Removed when you delete the App
Never synced to external services

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The App does not collect information from anyone.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
