Troubleshooting

My USB drive is not detected

Make sure your USB-C drive is properly connected to your iPhone or iPad. Open the Files app and check if the drive appears in the sidebar under "Locations". If it doesn't appear in Files, it won't appear in USB Backup. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the drive. Some drives may require a USB-C to Lightning adapter for older iPhones.

Backup is very slow

If you see "Downloading from iCloud..." during backup, your photos are being downloaded from iCloud before being transferred. This requires an internet connection and can be slow depending on your network speed. For faster backups, make sure your photos are stored locally on your device (Settings > Photos > Download and Keep Originals).

I can't select a folder on my USB drive

When selecting a USB destination, make sure you're navigating to a folder on your USB drive in the document picker. Look for your drive name in the sidebar. If the drive doesn't appear, try ejecting and reconnecting it. The drive must be formatted in a format compatible with iOS (APFS, ExFAT, or FAT32).

"Not enough space" error

Your USB drive doesn't have enough free space for the backup. Check the pending backup size on the Home screen and compare it with the available space on your drive. You may need a larger drive or to free up space by removing old files.

How do I restore my purchase?

If you've previously purchased USB Backup Pro and need to restore it (e.g., on a new device), go to Settings > Account and tap "Restore Purchases". Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase.

Can I access my backed-up files on a computer?

Yes! Simply plug your USB drive into any computer (Mac, Windows, Linux). Your files are organized in regular folders (Album / Year / Month) and can be browsed with any file manager. No special software needed.

What USB drive format should I use?

We recommend ExFAT format, as it works with iOS, macOS, and Windows. FAT32 also works but has a 4GB file size limit (which may be an issue for long 4K videos). APFS works but is only readable on macOS and iOS.

App shows 0 pending items but I have photos

This means all your photos have already been backed up according to the manifest file on your USB drive. If you want to back up everything again, you can delete the "photobackup_manifest.json" file from your USB drive using a computer, and then reopen the app.

System Requirements

- iPhone or iPad with iOS/iPadOS 17.0 or later

- USB-C flash drive or external storage device

- For older devices with Lightning: a USB-C to Lightning adapter
